This is what the telezapper basically does. It emits that tone that tells you there is no number there. This does not work on some systems though, but most of them
Well this number called me, left a message that I should call an 888 number back (which, by the way, only had 6 digits no matter how many times I listened to the message). I called back the number that called me, they asked for my account number, then my social securtiy number (niether of which I provided) and I hung up on them.
I then called the Chase number on the back of my card, they told me they didn't try to contact me and I have a balance of $0.00 so there's nothing past due on my account.
I'd say it's a scam at this point given that they asked for my Social Security number (which no card would ever do- just the last 4 digits) and that my Chase card doesn't even have a balance.
SCAM ALERT!!!! they are calling from India and routing it via an Illinois tel number. They say CHASE BANK --- but they are NOT JPMorgan Chase. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFO and never call them back!
I didn't pick up initially because I was in a meeting. When no message is left for a number I don't recognize, I am always suspicious. I am still getting calls, but never pick up. Thanks to those that did and confirmed my concern.
