Just reinstalled a computer that got caught in this one. They claimed cleanup but installed a shutdown program in startups and disabled all windows services and set permissions so they could not be repaired. The victim was misled by the scammers repeated use of the word Microsoft to legitimize their invasion. Of course their relationship to Microsoft is bogus.
They called in on 1-225-382-03089 (from my caller id - a 12 digit number displayed) gave 1-847-521-9241 as a business number to call in for help. I pulled my internet connection as soon as I figured out that they didn't actually work for Microsoft, which they claimed to be with or agents of. Searched the phone number as I talked with them and found some posts that were disturbing. I'm not sure if my computer got infected in the short time I had them on the line but so far so good. They wanted $177.95 for a service to keep my pc clean. Scam artists. Said they were agents of Microsoft. Don't let them get into your computer.
They have called me everyday for 2 weeks. I called Microsoft and they said they authorize nobody to contact their customers. I'm unsure how to stop them. They stated they will continue to call until I do what they want.
