I was called by someone from India claiming to be from microsoft. They took control of my cursor and showed me what looked like terrible computer problems. Then I got the sales talk - $177 to fix these problems. He insisted I give him my credit card info right away. When I refused he became very abusive and told me I wasn't smart enough to use a computer and I could just say goodbye to my computer. After I got off the phone my computer was crazy for about an hour , closing every 60 seconds. I finally was able to do a restore, and everything went back to normal. I did a scan with Norton and everything looked good, but I'm very worried about using this computer in the future.
just got a call from this number and it seemed like a big time scam. he said he was from microsoft and I needed to go to a website to download a fix for my computer.
It's a total scam..... said he was from MS and my computer was infected. Sent me to AMMYY.COM to download a .exe file for remote access to my pc and then wanted my password. Then they wanted money to "clean" my pc so hung up!
Remo from Microsoft 35 - Technical Dept. called. I asked him where he was located. He said '5 Starling'. I asked why he was calling - He said "Virus, Trojan" could ruin my computer. I checked with our School's IT Dept. They told me this is a scam.
Same thing happened to me. Very clearly a scam. Told him I could not get to computer. Asked for phone # where I could call him back (yeah, right). He gave me 84 75 31 92 41. When I asked where it was, he told me it was in India.
I kept asking for more details until he finally hung up on me. If you're going to annoy me, I'll annoy you right back!
Received a call from Eric claiming he was a Microsoft systems engineer, that my computer was infected and that he could fix it. I also asked for phone number to call him back and got 847-531-9241. I hung up and called comcast, my internet provider, and they indicated it sounded like a scam.
