Twice today the phone rang and upon answering it there was dead silence. This is extremely annoying and can be dangerous to elderly people. I want these idiotic calls to stop. Caller ID said J. Bent.
Unidentifiable caller “Luis,” refused to give me his surname. Claimed to be working for Florida Department of Health, but caller i.d. window showed only the number 850-629-6358. I informed him our number was on federal and state do-not-call lists, but he said that was not pertinent for this call. I suggested that if he were whom he claimed to be, a better protocol should be established to reassure the public that his purposes were not to scam but to collect data for the government. How would that data be used? Who knows?
After interrupting the conversation "Luis" already had been having with my family member, I asked that the personal data already collected from my relative not be used for any purpose and that it be deleted from his records. I informed him we got frequent fraudulent telephone calls and since we could not verify who he was, the call had to be terminated. I explained that I was protecting my brother, not trying to be rude.
He gave me the number 866-779-6122 as his supervisor’s contact. He gave the name of abt.srbi = [http://www.srbi.com ?] as the entity he worked for and referred me to www.cdc.gov web page [ probably http://www.cdc.gov/brfss/ ].
By the time I interceded, my relative had already communicated to him a great deal of highly personal health information.
I told "Luis" I would be checking out his claim.
He may or may not have been legitimate in his request. I can only assume he was referring me to the following web sites to establish his legitimacy:
