Another annoying scammer our government and voice service companies do nothing about. Thankfully there are free robocall blockers that re-route these calls after one ring. Now this pain in the butt is blocked forever.
Robocall alledgedly from BlueCross BlueShield about abuse of prescription drugs and "press 1 to confirm delivery" of some supposedly safe alternative. Probably not actually from BC BS.
Just want to add one more suggestion to yours, to protect personal information. Your entry was very comprehensive. When you use a copy machine at a place like Staples or Office Max, etc., be aware that the way copy machines work is by taking a picture of your documents. It doesn't erase it afterwards. When the machine is retired, they can end up in China, Africa or India along with all that medical, tax and other dangerous information. Xerox promised me that they destroy it all, but I don ' to trust anyone. As they say in Brooklyn, "trust in God, but lock your car doors!" I only use copy machines once or twice a year, and the way I deal with it is to omit any personal information on the original, do my copying, and then add my personal data on both the original and copies afterwards.
Roso, all the phone companies have to be concerned about is that the phone bill is paid on time. They are not required to be concerned about content, even if it is scammers or terrorists. It may even be illegal to eavesdrop without appropriate legal process. If it is a dangerous call, they refer you to an appropriate agency, local police, FTC and so on. Privacy and First Amendment rights, and so on. And by the way, the FTC won't help you, either. They will say their job is to "follow trends," not protect individuals. So basically, it's up to you to educate yourself. Websites like this provide mutual support and a place to vent.
