Previous poster has it right; they are not spam or a scam. Free industry magazines have advertisers. The only way to quantify a free magazine's "subscriber" base (that justifies the cost of advertising in that magazine) is to periodically "audit" subscribers, so they call to verify info - such as how many people work in your plant, what is the main product category of your company, is your position operations, manufacturing, management, when purchasing are you approval level, influence level, n/a level etc... they are harmless and do not ask personal questions, but it gets to be time-consuming if your company subscribes to a lot of these free mags (Manufacturing Update, Logistics Magazine, Plant Floor, Industrial Maintenance, Widget Centerfolds, like that...) These call centers do audits for a LOT of magazine titles at once.
The person who called is a criminal. This is a scam. Do NOT give or confirm any information to this individual. This type of crime is organized. Caller is using an overlay number who even knows where this criminal is located.
