"Cancer Fund of America and a related support group, Cancer Fund of America Support Services, Inc., reported they raised slightly more than $17 million in 2007, the most recent year in which public information is available. Of that total, Cancer Fund of America reported it donated $54,000 in cash to unrelated groups or individuals – or about 3/10 of 1 percent. Of that $54,000, however, $50,000 went to a court directed cancer charity as part of a settlement with the Georgia Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs. The state alleged the charity gave out deceptive and misleading solicitations to consumers.
The salaries and benefit packages for charity president James T. Reynolds, Sr., two sons and a son-in-law totaled more than $537,000 for the same period."
Caller coughed in my ear (very professional). Asked for me by first name. I asked "who is calling?" and she responded "Actually, I'm calling for either one of you."
Way to pay attention, honey.
She then said that she was Amanda from some-such-company that is a paid fundraising company calling on behalf of the "Cancer Fund of America."
I coughed back in her ear and told her not to call again. Then I hung up.
Just received a phone call from some cancer fund raising concern
in Camden. She knew my name (how?) and made her speel. I told her that my wife is a breast cancer survivor & that i donate to that cause & give my time also. She told me to cover the cost of sending me a "Pledge Kit" she will put me down for a $20.00 donation!!! I repeated my reply and suggested she try someone else and clean her ears!!!
