The IRS does not initiate communications
with a "cold call" to unsuspecting people.
Instead
The IRS always sends snailmail letters first!

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Please reply to this post, to let us know you read it, or have taken suitable actions to protect yourself.

Not much anyone can do.  Callers are located (usually) in India and
Pakistan and as such beyond the reach of US law.  Local governments do little.
Invest in a call blocker and do NOT pick up on call number syou do not recognize.

Threatened with arrest, bank account would be put on hold, I would be taken into judicial custody, and told me to call their tax dept. at 856-335-5536 if I had questions then repeated the number. Msg was left on answering machine. I don't pick up calls I don't recognize. Couldn't be anything but scam since I owe no taxes nor do I have any debts.

Same as above.  Received three calls in 2 days, one was late at night.  This scam rises above the level of credit card consolidation.  It clearly threatens a lawsuit and arrest.   Why isn't law enforcement looking into these threatening and harassing calls?
