Claims to be calling from a Veterans Assistance group of some sort. He was talking so fast I couldn't quite get the gist of what he was saying. Tried to break in on his 'script' (sounded like he was reading off of a pre-written narrative) but he kept talking right over me. I started to think it might be just a very real sounding 'robo call' & I kept listening for a moment & I guess he wasn't sure if someone were actually on the line. He started to say 'Hello, hello'.......... but when I started to tell him I had no idea who he really was because my father was a combat wounded Marine in the Korean War he started-up his speech again just like a recording so I hung-up. Couldn't get a word in edgewise anyway. Sounded fishy to me because there are agencies out there who we do support who collect a couple of times a year to benefit combat wounded veterans (my dad spent the rest of his life in a wheel chair) but they send out information in a letter along with a newsletter describing what they are doing and how they are raising money to do this or that in the coming months. They want people to get involved. They don't just call you on the phone and ask you for money. This guy sounded an awful lot like the guy who called a couple of weeks back asking for money for the Police Benevolent Society and when I told him I didn't have anything extra that month that money was tight he asked if I could give him a post dated check for the next month or even two months in the future. I don't know of any of these agencies who only call and sound so desperate. Beware of them. Something just isn't right.
