(856) 519-1082 Live telemarketing call recorded 30 December 2016 ("Tom", pretending to conduct surveys in my area to help the environment, thinly disguised telemarketing for selling solar panels)

Caller ID: "Camden NJ"

A telemarketing call thinly disguised (very thinly, I might add) as a survey "to help the environment" but is actually a screening call to determine if I qualify for solar panel installation on my roof.

Pretending to be conducting a survey, the caller actually screened me to determine if I owned a single family residence that has a roof with clear access to the sun, paid over $150 per month for my electric bill, and if my FICO credit score was at least 650. Of course I passed all his screening questions (see transcript, below) and of course he'll have solar experts call me to arrange a free inspection so I can benefit from solar panel electricity generation.

I even got chummy with him, discussing the change of seasons and he disclosed he was calling from Florida (not the local number that showed on my telephone Caller ID) and where here grew up.

His total lack of observing the Do Not Call list certainly speaks volumes about his business ethic, doesn't it?

Thanks to Google Voice, here is a transcript of his unwanted, intrusive screening, telemarketing call:

[me:] "Hello?"
[they:] "Yes, Mr. Allen?"

[me:] "Yes."
[they:] "Mr. Allen? Hi, sir. This is Tom. I'm calling you on behalf of Renew on a recorded line. Uh, we're doing some market research in your area that helps the environment. We're talking to people about the Solar Initiative. It's not a sales call. I didn't call the trying to sell you anything, but I would like to ask you five or six really quick questions if you have a minute, only takes a minute, okay?"

[me:] "Okay."
[they:] "Alright. The first question is, how familiar are you with your state's subsidized energy programs would you say you're very familiar somewhat to no, you are not familiar with what's going on with your state?"

[me:] "Not familiar."
[they:] "Alright. And what's your average monthly electric bill looking like now? Would you say it's more or less than a hundred and fifty a month?"

[me:] "Uh, now, did you say one fifty more or less than one fifty?"
[they:] "Yes, sir? Yes, sir."

[me:] "Uh, it's definitely higher."
[they:] "Ok. And uh who is your current electric company? Who do you power with there in your state?"

[me:] "Uh, PECO."
[they:] "And you guys still own a single family home at 288 Moonlight Drive?"

[me:] "That is correct."
[they:] "I'm calling from the south Florida area with always nice and sunny, but I know it gets cold in other places. Are you in an area where you get good sun or is your house, or your roof let's say, shaded by a lot of trees?"

[me:] "Uh no, we, we get good sun, there are no trees."
[they:] "Alright, and the last question would you say your FICO score is above 650, yes or no?"

[me:] "Yes."
[they:] "Alright. Uh great, that's all the questions I have. Based on your answers obviously you're one of the ones that could really save with your state energy initiatives. Problem is the state hasn't been doing a very good job (laughs) in letting people know what they are, uh, but there's some great savings that are available for you. Our solar specialist will call back from offer you a free assessment. They could show you how you can save some money. It's been super nice talking to you today, and I hope I stayed under a minute. You're extremely nice and kind. Thank you so much for your time. You have a great day. We'll be in touch you soon. Thanks, Mr. Allen."

[me:] "Okay. I hope you enjoy the weather there in Florida, it's cold here."
[they:] (laughs) "Ok. It can rain from time to time."

[me:] "On the other hand, it does seem like Christmas and New Year when the weather is cold. I think I'd miss that."
[they:] "Exactly, and I'd miss that too. I got to tell you it's not it's not the same. It's not the same at all. Well ok."

[me:] "Are you from the north originally?"
[they:] "I I am from the north, I actually used to live in New York. So I know a lot about that and then I would I, you know, I'm originally from North Carolina, North Carolina but I was a baby in New York when I came back to Carolina and then the Florida so it's a lot different, and I do miss that fall weather when I used to see the leaves turn color those bright orange and yellow color that I only see on pictures now. He, he, he."

[me:] "Yeah, well, I'll enjoy that for you, you enjoy the warmth for me."
[they:] "Absolutely. Thank you Mr. Allen, we'll be in touch with you soon about [unintelligible] have a great day sir."

[me:] "Okay. Happy New Year to you."
[they:] "Same to you sir. Bye bye now."
