Better Business Bureau has issued a national alert about phony debt collectors that are calling consumers nationwide and claiming that they have defaulted on a payday loan and will be arrested if they don’t pay immediately.
Claiming to be lawyers, the scammers say they are with the “Financial Accountability Association” or the “Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans” and often have the victim’s Social Security, old bank account numbers or driver’s license numbers as well as home addresses, employer information and even the names of personal friends and professional references.
I also received a phone call from this number - person stated he was Mark Nelson...."time sensitive...if I don't return call all I can do is wish you good luck..." What the heck? this the 2nd time....how can we stop this garbage?

Someone calls and leaves 15 or 20 messages on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23, 2009, some messages are from a David Williams, that claims to be an attorney with my case that is of extreme importance and that I should contact him immediately. There are several hang up messages... My caller ID reads Unknown Caller with no telephone number. The person that leaves a voice message has an Indian (India) accent and states that this message is intended for ...(me)in a distorted voice, then returns to the regular voice.
I would very much like this to stop. It is extremely annoying and I want to know how David Williams (Indian) obtained my name and telephone number.
