I too, got a call today ( Feb 3/12) from 858-429-9800 claiming that he was from Microsoft and that my pc was infected with viruses and wanted to know if I wanted to have them repair the situation. He said I could watch what he was going to do, but know that I have to give permission to let him in to my computer, and to me, that sounded to fishy. I said that I wanted to check on this matter to see if it was legit, and if not, I was going to call the police. "I did call the police and it is a SCAM..."
Called me (in Montreal area), claiming to be from Microsoft. Said that my computer was "reporting" viruses to them. Wanted to access my system (ha!) to "fix" the problem for me. My parents received the same ridiculous call (at another number) earlier in the day. This was rather suspicious, so I decided to google the info. I found a posting from 2009 from someone else who receive a similar call (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2503355&page=79). Further research indicates that this number is from a company called Instant Tech Care who -- surprise, surprise -- offers instant tech care plans to fix compromised computers: http://instanttechcare.com/packages.php# Oh, did I mention that the webmaster has decided to forgo proper grammar? Very professional!
