Rec'd a call this a.m. from this number. A person calling himself Steve with a very heavy accent, the kind associated with Overseas Call Centres, told me the same story, but the $1100.00 charge was for eBay and Western Union. I let him carry on, asking for his phone number, which he agreeably gave to me. The number he gave me was our own area code and a fake number, of course. When I asked him which Bank he was calling for, he replied CIBC..wrong bank, called him a Scammer and of course, he hung up.
Not. 3 minutes later I get another "promotional" call from "Publishers Clearing House" congratulating me on"entering the $25,000.00 sweepstakes. Something I have never done. Asking for my Birth year . A little coincidental to receive two calls that close together, and unlike any others I've received. I think they both originate from the same place.
Some one called indicating they are from RBC Visa and my card has received a charge from Western Union of $1100.00 and they want me to log onto a website to prevent this transaction from going through my card. When I indicated that I did not think that RBC would need me to log onto any website to dispute a charge when they had me on the phone and that I would call RBC to verify this the person hung up.
They called me this morning at 8:30am stating they were from VISA and that there had been a charge to my card from ebay and western union. Then he was saying that he was going to send me forma to contest the charge but wanted me to confirm the next two numbers of my card. Of course i did not then i said i was going to call back and hung up. The sound quality was terrible and i kept hearing back everything i was saying. Called the number behind the card and there had been no such charges.
I got a call at 7am stating that a large purchase was made from my non-existent Visa card. I flipped out about the time of the call while the young man continued to read his computer screen verbatim and kept attempting to phish information from me..all while sounding like the background fry was a party. I wonder how many people will get scammed by this?
Person sounded like calling from India. 7am. Says your visa starting with 45 (most visa' s start this way). Was used to charge $500 at 5 am. When I asked him to tell me which bank as I have more than one he could not. Then I said I will call my bank he ignored me and started to ask me for my visa #'s. Then I said your calling Canada its illegal to call before 9 am my time that's when he hung up. Sounded like the same guy who says he's from Microsoft and my computer has a virus.
