Caller ID showed Out Of Area and the message on the machine was of a live male voice claiming that I am the subject of criminal litigation, and that if I don't return the call and make arrangements with them, they will proceed with the criminal charges. Money scammer call blocked!
I received a call from 859-904-2423, I answered, and it was an automated system saying he was Elliot with mediation, and I needed to press 1 to speak with someone, or have my attorney contact him. I pressed 1, spoke with a woman that said she had a sworn affidavit, stating I had payday loan from Alternative Financial Services (operating as PayDay America, Quick Cash, Advance America, Cash Now, Cash Advance.com, etc) The loan was charged off in July 22, 2014. (supposedly it was opened 2-3 years prior to the charge off)The outstanding balance is $1386.13. I could settle today for $888.56, or make 3 monthly payments for $462.32. If I didn't do anything, felony charges would be brought against me in court.
She stated they aren't a collection agency, only acting as mediators attempting to settle a debt, and they cannot take any money from me. If I wanted to settle, she would transfer me to the local court house in my county to make a payment that way. I would then have to complete the docusign paperwork online, to verify that it's actually me.
What's frightening is she knew the last 4 of my SSN, and the name of my bank. She said she would forward all information to the state so I could file for discovery to see what the debt is.
Who are these people?
This company called saying they were mediators for the courts, liars, when I pressured them to tell me more they hung up, I also informed them that I was recording the conversation which made them less willing to tell me who they were. This is a scam of some sorts.
I can assure you that there is not court mediators that will call you out of the blue to offer a deal to pay of a supposed debt. It is a lie and a scam to take money from you. You would have to have been served with court papers and go to court in order to get a mediator assigned to your case. I received the same call and blocked them from my phone.
P.S. there is not court mediator from a different state that would be assigned to you either. If you live in a different state than Kentucky, then they are lying.
You called their bluff. Well played.. Knowing the laws and the process of the system is key. Fighting these criminal scammers with FACTS beats them every time. Well done, Sheryl!
