Just picked up and clicked to answer, but just laid the phone down for about 10 minutes before hanging up. It said "unavailable" so I did the same--I became unavailable and also so "it" couldn't use the phone for a while. Besides, that's a weird number!!
The government has no control over any facet of criminal behavior because laws are not obeyed by criminals. Since telemarketing laws have no consequences for breaking them, most legitimate telemarketers don't abide by them, which in my book makes them criminals. It sounds crazy, but I get dozens of calls a day from telemarketers. I don't even use my home phone anymore.
The fact is, the Do Not Call List does not work. I know for a fact that businesses are willing to pay the petty fine for those few that complain and actually get a response from the government. That fine is just a small fraction of what they actually make. In fact, some companies actually use the do not call list as their call list. Data has shown they have a higher sales rate using the DO Not Call List than cold calling. There is no down side to breaking the law as the law is not enforced, and when it is the penalties are minuscule. Those who do not obey the law should be held accountable via fines and jail time. You and I both know that will never happen. So the fact is: the DO Not Call List does not work. You just keep telling yourself that it does. In fact, try re-registering your number on the list. You will see your call volumes increase within a few weeks.
Received call 7-10-14 4:11PM from 860-111-1111, caller id as Connecticu Call, I am on the National Do Not Call List, and the Indiana Do Not Call List, gee seems neither one works very well. No message left on answering machine.
I've been getting 3-5 calls a week from this number and others stating they are from the Geek Squad and Microsoft wanting to help me with my computer. Not one of the callers has been a native English speaker. They hang up without another word when I tell them we have Linux. I called Geek Squad to confirm that they do not solicit. The most recent call was from someone trying to sound British. It was rather amusing. Just a scam to gain access to your computer.
