Someone named Steve Brown. Called my office, asked to speak to HR to verify employment but wouldn't tell me who it was he was verifying until I identified myself. I told him I was HR, did not identify myself and refused to verify anything until I knew what I was verifying it for. (Too many scams these days) He got very nasty and hung up on me. He may be some sort of collection agency because a Google search said he was calling others for that sort of thing. I would have happily verified employment if he had 1)Been nicer, 2) Given the info I asked for and 3) not hung up on me.
Also, due to the google search, I found that he uses this number as well as 716-504-6876 and called last week. so I posted this twice.
When he called from the 716 number, he was instructed that the person he was looking for was not allowed to receive personal calls at work. As far as I'm concerned, that was pretty good verification of employment right there and this most recent phone call was a way in and an illegal one at that.
