I got a pre-recorded call from this number, no identifying info, recording claimed criminal charges for Fraud were going to be filed against me in my local county very soon. That I would need to call this number back before receiving the summons to appear in court or I would forfeit all my rights once the summons was served. It gave me an account/reference number and disconnected the call after repeating the message twice.

I work for a criminal defense law firm, which means I know how the filing of criminal charges works. If you're suspected of criminal wrong doing you may get a call from a law enforcement officer investigating the offense, but you will not receive a warning from some law firm or be offered a get out of prosecution by paying a fee kind of deal.

I wanted to get more information on this scam since my firm's name has been used as an alias for the perpetrators of this type of scam in the past. I called the number, spoke with a man who identified himself as "Nathan" [sounded like a middle aged white male]. I asked what company he worked with he said he was with B. A. & Associates. After giving him a line about having a missed call he needed the phone number that the call went to. After looking up my number he disclosed that he had another person's name attached to the account that is connected to my phone number. I informed him I have owned this phone number for over 10 years and do not know anyone who goes by that name. He said he'd remove my number from their files, but I doubt it will happen.

This is a scam, even though he never got to the threatening me with prosecution and jail time I could tell that was where this was headed. This is not a legitimate call.
