This scammer is quite experienced. Sounds like an older fella who called my home and said "Hi XXXX, This is Ted. Ted Macintosh from Enfield,. Can you give me a call when you get a chance? Thanks." He used my first name and sounds like someone I should know or be familiar with. Turns out, however, that's he's a fundraiser for something or other to do with Police Union or Explorers or whatever. Ignore him and block the number. I dislike it when someone tries to sound like he's my best friend and all he wants to do is squeeze bucks out of me for this or that.
One website says this phone number belongs to YMAX COMMUNICATIONS CORP
The older sounding woman who called asked for Mrs. XXXXX and when I asked who was calling she said "it's a courtesy call." When I said I would not pass the phone to Mrs. XXXX until she told me who's calling she said again "it's a courtesy call - we'll call back." When I tried dialling the number back I got an automated message that said the majic jack device I'm calling is not available.
somebody called me at around 4pm yesterday and said he is from police department asking a money to support something for the kids, but i think this was a scam because I spoke with the police and they said they never solicit for money.
For pity sake people, DO NOT DONATE TO ANY ORGANIZATION THAT CLAIMS TO THE RAISING MONEY FOR POLICE OR FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL. The telemarking companies that do the calls take a huge percentage of the "donated" money and, besides that, police and fire personnel have some of the best benefit packages of any workers in the country and most of them are paid very well. If you want to donate to a police or fire cause go the department itself and write the check directly to them. And also, when you see firemen in the street collecting money in boots, DO NOT DO IT. You have no idea were that cash
will go. Once again...WRITE A CHECK, if you must. m-j (policeman's daughter, policeman's sister and retired 911 dispatcher.)
