Scammer asked for donation for police association over the phone. Police and fire dept do not ask for donations over the phone

A third party person seeking donations to a NJ police benevolent association... No formal org name given.  This scam has been going on for years using various numbers.

Called asking for donation for special equipment for the police. I told him I'm retired making $44,000 a year and our local police make $94,000. He's calling the wrong person. Thanked me, told me that I would be removed from their call list and then we hung up.
