My answering machine has been steadily filling up with
calls from the number 862-881-8982. When checking this against
Google, I get a verification it's a cell phone number out
of New Jersey, but then I also pick up a bunch of hits
on "advertising" to sell to me the services of reverse
lookup on 862 phone numbers. I don't know if this is a scam
just to get me to buy the reverse-lookup service ($15 a pop
to get the unlisted name and address of that cell phone
number) or what, but whatever is going on, they are hammering
the hell out of my answering machine and I have no plans
to return calls. I am on the Do Not Call registery.
They are a scavenger lender, a company that buys old credit card debts, which are called commercial paper. Most of these debts are not good. Thus they scare and harass you into paying them. In Ohio, they are only good for 6 years from the date stated on the note: Ohio Revised Code 1303.16(A). You need to write to the Texas, MO, and your own state attorney general. You also need to dispute this debt with all 3 credit bureaus.
