Yes it is an extortion scam being run on or by that site. There are numerous number threads her with the same story. Make a police report both to your local PD and to the South Carolina PD.
Started talking to this girl Elana Matthews (843)310-9394 from meetme and on her profile it said she was 20 years old. Then we started talking and got to texting and what not. The next day i got a call and text from her "dad" who said his name was David Matthews (843)580-2853 and that he has his daughters phone in his possession and that i have until 1 pm to get ahold of him. I was late getting ahold of him because i was at work. He kept calling me son and wrote ".." randomly just like the supposed daughter did. He also type text as txt like his supposed daughter did. Anyway i got a call from an investigator peterson (864)326-1852 who said he was with the ICAC (internet crimes against children) agency, he said i had a complaint filed against me and i could end up having a warrant for my arrest. He did know my first and last name however which i never tell anyone. He said the best thing to do would be to call the father David Matthews (which sounded very much like the investigator). So i was so freaked out i immediately left work to straighten this out. I called the dad (David Matthews) and he said that his daughter stole his car after getting into an argument with his wife and she crashed and went to the hospital. David Matthews (dad) said he didn't want to press charges but his wife didn't see it that way and did want to press charges. He said he would not turn the phone into the investigator if i would pay half of her hospital and therapy bills (around $5,000), he wondered if i had heard of western union, and then i mentioned money order and he said that would work. He promised he would not press charges as long as i kept my end of the deal. He said his word was like gold, and that it would be alright. So i called the investigator back and got two different voicemails. One was a plain voicemail just saying the number, the other sounded professional. Once the investigator called back i asked for proof of identification and he said they don't have badge numbers or anything like that in the ICAC. I told him we had a lawyer ready and he didn't like that. I asked him if i should go to my local authorities and set up a conference call to sort this out and he said no. The investigator said him and Mr. Matthews had a meeting the next day to discuss if i would have a warrant or not. Although in texts i have Mr. Matthews saying he had just met with the investigator and that everything was fine and that the investigator no longer wished to speak with me since he (David Matthews/Dad) was no longer pursuing pressing charges. So that did not add up. After talking to the so-called investigator i called David Matthews (dad) and he did not mention anything about money, he said everything would be fine and to rest assured. He said he was unaware that he had a meeting with the investigator but that maybe his wife set something up. he said he would call investigator peterson and tell him he no longer wishes to pursue in the morning. One thing i forgot, when i was talking to the investigator he said he was talking to a detective in my area and i asked for the detectives name and he said he couldn't provide that information. The day when that supposed meeting at 10 that morning was supposed to take place i called the investigator to see what was going on, he said David Matthews called and did not wish to pursue and the investigator said to be rest assured (just like the dad). Since then when i try calling the investigator it rings once and goes to voicemail no matter what phone i use. This has scared me soo much, i haven't been able to sleep or anything. Is this a scam? Anyone have a similar experience with any of these numbers?
Had similar happen to me. It's a scam. Rest easy buddy. As soon as I heard rushcard, I knew. Also, a dead giveaway for me was that a warrant will be issued for my arrest from the so called "investigator". Law enforcement never calls you and says a warrant will be issued to you on the phone. RELAX!
Same thing just happened. Started talking to a girl crystal off pof. Get a call from her "dad" saying his daughter broke the laptop and i was too replace it. And that if not charges would be filed cause the girl was underage (pprofle said 20)
Then i get a text from investigator petersons with icac telling me to call him on his personal line and if he didnt answer leave a message to sort things out.
Etc etc same story as yours just different names and a different dating app. Scared me too until i just read your story. Its gotta be a scam
