Deceptive caller, claims to be from Windows Technical Center and they have been receiving an error report from my computer for the past two weeks. - I hung up right after that statement
Got call from 864.555.0169 on my cell. I did not answer.
I never give out my cell number and xxx.555.01xx is reserved only for information exchange - xxx.555.1212.
Anytime I receive a xxx.555.01xx call I block it immediately and report it if I can.
Fake number!
Bad people use fake numbers.
I didn't answer, but my cell is now constantly getting these unknown calls from numbers with 555-xxxx in them. I believe they are generating from call sites in India and are scams. One well known scam right now is for someone to claim they are from Windows technical support, claim you have a virus on your computer and they can help you if you pay them $299. They will also ask for remote access to your computer--which gives them the ability to delete files!
As others have said, any number that is 555-0100 to 555-0199 is fictious in the USA.
These people pretend to be an insurance company and state they can lower your rate. If they are lucky... you fall for it and you share your personal information with them. They then use this data later to scam you in getting money.
These are the same folks who also run other scams such as PayDay Loans and pretending to be a computer technician. Do not fall for it.

We get a number of these calls that show up as "Dir. Asst." on the caller I.D. I answered one call once and it sounded like a call center in India and the caller claimed that my computer had a problem and they needed to fix it. I told them that I had someone taking care of my computer and hung up. Is there any way to stop these calls? I am on a no call list, but it doesn't seem to help. Since I am retired, I feel that this is some type of targeting of the elderly. Does anyone know how to report these calls to someone who can do something about them? Reporting them to the Federal no call list is a waste of time.
