fraud buster
the call was initiated by myself off of an advertisement that wanted you to send 500 for expenses related to receiving 15000 worth of lumber at a cost of 3800.00 when the person answered she acted as if she was at home and would have her daddy call me back.  (as if the home was in their backyard and they had to take it apart).  she stated they did not ave a web site and could not email but they could mail info. to me and above is what the info stated.  the material did not list an address of their business or even the state.

Busy Mom in OK
I have actually been in conversation with Dan Ryan for a couple weeks now. My husband and I have 5 kids still living at home or in college, so we need a big place. We have been talking to Dan about #11, which is 4536 sq.ft. Dan has never been anything but helpful and informative on the phone.

Talking to Dan, it is clear the guy has been in construction for a long time. Here is a clue that he is not a scammer. Have you ever purchased something from a scammer? The key is to get your money and cut off communication. So, if, say, I agreed on a Thursday to buy his house, and then he got VM from me on Saturday, isn't it likely that my call on Saturday would be "second thoughts?" Yet, that happened, and he returned the call just as promptly.

Dan didn't ask for any money up front. He told me I pay when he delivers.

I was able to find the business (by the phone number) on the Better Business Bureau site. Seems like ... if this business were a scam, which is what you implied, and he is any good at what he is doing, that SOMEONE would surely have contacted the Better Business Bureau to complain about him, right?

bbb.org is a great place to start if you want to ferret out fraud.

I don't have any relationship to Dan. I just think that a reputation is a terrible thing to trash cavalierly. Again, I am only posting this because Dan has never been anything for clear, well-spoken, and informative when I have talked to him.

If someone has truly been scammed by Dan, by all means, POST IT. Where are the posts from people who have been ripped off? Where are the complaints to the BBB? I sure want to know if I am going to be buying a house from this guy.

A reputation is a very dear thing. Proverbs says what we all know to be true: "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold."

dreaming of the country
I first saw the ad and wanted to find out more information (too good to be true, right) The woman I spoke to supplied me with e-mailed information.  She also sent me a hard copy via the snail mail.  After looking over the information I did call the number in the booklet (not the original number) and spoke to Dan.  I was very "on the fence" about the whole thing but after speaking to him I feel a bit more confident. Both numbers i called sounded like work from home (via the background noise & a lot of people work from home now a days) it didn't deminish the content of the conversation. Though he will not be doing the actual building of the home he seemed to know what he was talking about and was able to give me numbers that sounded more like what the final cost would be (24k).  Considering you're only paying for the shell lumber (which Oak is not cheap anywhere you go) 5k doesn't seem all that bad. You do have to purchase additional lumber for the inside, roof, porch and of course the concrete foundation; but this is still the best deal I've seen searching the internet and speaking to my brother-in-law who is a carpenter/contractor (& the man who's crew will be doing the construction).
Just my two cents
