This is a legit IRS outgoing number. I am a revenue agent. The number may be spoofed. Only until very recently did the IRM (internal revenue manual) change to not allow cold calls for initial contact. Up until late last year we were to call and follow up with a letter. Now we send a letter first.
Use common sense, it may be legitimate. We never ask for payment over the phone or threaten arrest.
This is the IRS. This agent is harassing me named Kenneth [removed] (I encourage you to call and harass him like he has me and probably many others) He must have obtained my cell phone number I guess through the NSA who knows???... Calling me about an elderly very sick relatives taxes that I have NO control over. The IRS needs to be SERIOUSLY regulated and or ABOLISHED! This disgusting guy also called me at work!
On 10-09-14: I got a call from this number and did not answer it as I did not recognize the number. Seconds later I got another call, this time from a Texas area code, 806-786-6524. This person left a message calling herself Rita "Smith" from the IRS.
She did not say what it was about, just for me to call her back at a later time as she was about to be out of the office. I googled the number and it was not an office number but a cell number. Grrrrrrr.....
We got a call like this one but we did not answer it. When I looked up the number, I found this page....thank you for exposing this stuff! They need to take these people out.
I received call twice just a while ago. I answered both times but nobody spoke from other end. They probably testing if anybody answer the phone. If they call again and somebody try to impose of something, i know what to tell them.
