Got a call from this number from Melody Ferris. I was not at my desk so she left her name and number - and that's all. Just told me to call. Since I deal with a lot of vendors and trade show people, I did try to call back and didn't get an answer or a machine. Tried again a couple of hours later and some man put me on hold forever. I finally hung up. The background on "hold" sounded like Court TV or something, so I thought they might be attorneys but couldn't find anything in the phone book. Started searching online and found this site.
I'm in a small office and we don't donate to everyone. My boss has charities he likes and that's all we do. They didn't sound very professional so he won't be receptive to their tactics.
Thanks for all the info. I'll know how to handle it if they call again.
I got a call from a nice Lady named Leah tonight and she sounded so sincere I commited to donating $100. I then did my homework and checked out the company and they do give the proceeds to the Shriners! I'm glad I trusted my instincts!
I was also contacted by this organization and will call The Shriners on Shelby Oaks to find out for myself if they are legit. On my caller ID the name was C A STOCKS. My wife had left a check on the door as they asked which is supposed to be for the Shirner's. After a couple of days no one ever came to pick up the check so I removed it from the door. So tonite I receive a phone call a asking why the check was taken off the door. I explained to the woman who called that I don't leave checks on my front door in hopes that the right person will be dropping by in a few days to pick it up. This sounds so fishy. I will call the Shriner's to verify the legitimacy of this deal.

We also got a call from this number which came as CA Stocks. It was a hang-up call. I'm sorry, but all of you above who left checks out for them to pick up are not using your brain! If you believe it is the Shriner's organization, then go directly to them and donate. I would never never leave a check at the front door for anyone as the result of a phone call! If a charity call is legitimate, the caller would be more than happy to give you their mailing address or even their office for you to drop in to donate. If anyone insisted on my leaving a check "under the mat" that would raise my suspicions over the roof! Use common sense!
In response to a telephone call four years ago from the Shriner's fund raising organization I donated $100 for youth tickets to the circus. The following year I again donated $100. Last year I was bombarded with telephone calls from at least nine individuals as far away as Georgia all claiming to be raising funds for the Shriner's which led me to believe these individuals were receiving a percentage of the donation and saw me as a hot prospect to tap into. No way to run a fund raising organization.
