This number has been used as part of a phishing attack. The FTC has stepped in, taken over the number and is presenting a pre-recorded message to anyone who calls the number back informing them of the phishing attack. Below is the text of a notice sent out by Citi to my company's purchasing department warning them of the problem:
“Subject: Potential Phishing Issue
All,
Citi Cardholders have reported receiving text messages from
[email protected] informing them of suspension of the card unless certain information is verified such as full account number, CVV, last 4 of SSN, and 4 digit PIN.
This phone number has been taken over by the Federal Trade Commission with a pre-recorded message indicating that callers may have been involved in a phishing attack. Additional information is then provided to advise callers of what these attacks are and how to prevent themselves from potential fraud.
As a reminder, under no circumstances would Citi require a Cardholder to submit this information. Our call centers have been reminded that anyone who receives calls regarding this, to advise callers that these messages do not originate with Citi and should not be responded to. Our Fraud Early Warning team is also closely engaged.
