I got the call about an hour after you. I told the guy I could not understand very well that he had a Middle Eastern accent and to speak slowly. He claimed to be an agent for Microsoft and said they were getting 40 complaints a day from my computer. I asked how he knew it was my computer and he said Microsoft supplied the information from a secret number embedded in the operating system that is recorded when I registered my Windows software. I knew this was a lie because I use Linux, but i strung him along asking many more questions like where this number can be found so I can verify the information. He said he would need to turn me over to a supervisor to tell me how to that, so after a 15 second pause, a female with a little less accent came on and gave me instructions which key by key would bring me to a command prompt (I may use Linux, but I am very proficient in Windows) she then told me to type in the box (letter by letter) anydesk.com. I stopped her and said what will this do? the .com means ii is a compiled program and I wont execute it until I find out what it does. (I already knew it was like "remote desktop" and would give them complete control) the man got back on and started screaming something in a foreign language and ended with [***]!!!! and disconnected. That's 15 minutes he will never get back! 8-)
A good way to stop them is to blow a whistle in their ear. Believe me, it works. I got the same call from a different number and he hasn't called since.
