Caller ID came up as Shelby County. Nobody on the line after I picked up. First couple of seconds you could hear people in the background (definite call center type noise). After that, silence for about 40 seconds and the line hung up. No ring or answer upon calling the number.
This is a fundraising effort in the name of Shelby County Firefighters. However a huge percent of the funds raised stay with the solicitors. I made the mistake of giving once, like 20 years ago, never have since. I've pleaded with them not to call me. It doesn't work. Now I just duck them. One of these days I'll finally ditch my landline and all this crapola will finally stop.
They used to call from (901) 969-2460. They claim they are calling on behalf of Firefighters and want donations. I asked a friend who is a firefighter about them, and he told me that the pass-through on contributions to this group is less than 10%. I told them to stop calling, and not only did they not stop, they would start arguing with me and laying a guilt trip about not supporting the firefighters. I blocked the 2460 number after that, and now they are calling from the 3828 number. I wish I could just block the 969 exchange.
