I have gotten these calls for several weeks. I used to receive calls with that same caller id, Memphis Shelby, from a 324 exchange. Those were from a Firefighters Association (NOT government based) that were raising money for what seemed like a vague reason to me. They would speak, though, when the calls were answered, but they were ANNOYING in the repeated call cycles after being told I didn't want to contribute. I know many others who have been driven crazy by the Firefighters Association calls, too. The official sounding caller i.d. prompts more people to answer, thinking it is a local government call of some kind, which I also find irritating. Maybe that wasn't their intention, but if you don't answer their calls, they'll call up to 6-8 times a day. If you tell them you won't or can't contribute, they're very polite about it, but the next quarter it starts all over again. So, when I started receiving calls from the same caller i.d., I assumed the FA had a new fundraising phone bank and I didn't answer. Now, after reading comments from others that did answer, I wonder if there's more going on than I thought. And I am naturally suspicious..
