First, you research your rights as a consumer under the FDCPA. It's easy. Just Google it.
Second, you tell them that all your calls at home & work will be logged & recorded.
Third, You DEMAND a legitimate & complete notice of validation be mailed (NOT e-mail or fax.) to you. As per federal regulations under the FDCPA. Tell them they have 5 business days to get it to you.
Fourth; If they refuse to comply with the above they have proven themselves to be fraudulent (or pure bogus) collectors attempting to collect on an invalid, time-barred or non-existent debt. Give them NO information. If they have title to a legitimate debt, they already have your info.
Fifth; Tell them that you are an informed consumer & that you're well aware that a Consumer Atty. can be retained on a contingency basis. (NO money up-front).
If they're domestic, that should do it. If they're foreign it may not. Either way, if they refuse to comply with the FDCPA, ignore them or block their calls. It's never your job to prove you do not owe a debt. It's the collectors job to prove that you do. By law!

These people keep trying to contact me from this # claiming that they have "important business matters to discuss". But they will not state the purpose of their call until I verify certain personal information questions. I refused to take their call but they keep harassing me and have even called my parents (who I don't live with) to find me. They have been asked to stop but they persist. If they do have important business to discuss, I have a mail box.
