"Officer" Harold (black female voice) from the, what sounded like, division of check and corporate services called, leaving a message on my voicemail saying she was investigating a possible fraud case and to call her for my docket number. She insisted I call her back at an 888 number to avoid incurring more charges. This phone number originated in Florida, and I suggest that anyone receiving similar calls, ignore them. The caller ID on my phone said "Unknown Name" and then 904-493-9445. When I Googled the number, it was unknown--any legitimate firm would not act in this manner. Avoid shady agencies that do not want to be identified--they are FRAUDULENT and should be reported for intimidation and unconstitutional acts on American citizens.
Investigator Jones called Monday and told me I owed money and had to call back and ask for (Steve). He called again today (Tuesday) saying he was his supervisor to not my home but a friend's home stating that I owed them money from a bad debt and I was a RED FLAG FRAUD. They are calling supposedly me but not at my home or at the right number. I owe nobody any money and these kind of calls have to stop immediately. This person is older and he does not need or anyone for that matter this kind of harrassment or treatment.
Have been dealing with several of these "agencies". The MO is usually the same. They are working off of a spread sheet with names and numbers, they will usually call anyone with a similar name. There is sometimes a cross reference of friends and familys numbers. Here is the usual method. Someone will call Claim to be an "investigator" "officer" or something to that effect. Sometime they will claim to be a Law office and give a name. Simplest way to blow their cover "ASK QUESTIONS!". If they are legitiment then they should have no problems providing answers. If they are a Law office ask them what state and what BAR association they are licensed with. 2nd as the "investigator" what kind of investigator they are? ie Law enforcement... If they claim to be law enforcment then What Agency are they commissioned with, ie what police department has issued them their badge? If they give you something ask them who is their supervisor and TELL them you will place them on hold while you call the department to verify. You will probably not get this far. 3rd "TAKING YOU TO COURT" for fraud or other reasons. Remember this is America. The wheels of justice turn but they turn very slowly. If you were to sue you neighbor, and keep in mind owing someone money for anyreason is not a Criminal act (ie there is no law broken so no jail time). Owning a debt is a civil matter. Meaning the worst that can happen is a law suit, and for most US civil courts there is usually a 2 year or more wait before you case will ever make it to a judge. So the line "pay us $xxx now or you will be in court tomorrow" is just crap. But you can humor if a "court case" has been filed then ask for the COURT "DOCKET NUMBER" this is a number that the court uses internally to assign to every case being heard. Then ask WHAT court has this been filed in who the assigned judge is and who is the attorney representing them in the case. Keep in mind most of these agencies will have hung up by know yelling into the phone and they will not be able to answer any of these questions as they are blowing smoke into your phone. Dont be intimidated by a "BULLY" that is what they are Bullies and you have to stand up to them. If they call your friends and family its unfortunate they are not playing by the rules. Tell your friends and family to hang up on them and F off. But the only remedy is to change a number or if their phone service provides it block it or send it straight to voice mail. Bullies play hardball you will have to play hard as well. Note on law suites, i'm not a legal expert at all. But if an Agency is in New York state stating they will take you to court, and you are in Texas. Well a New York Court wont have jurisdiction in Texas. This is a point most agencies fail to understand.
