Probe call/robodialer.  You answer, you are in their database.  They don't want to talk to you, they want to know if your number is a human being or not and a working number.  The problem is, I think even if you let the damned thing go to voice mail, the end result is the same, they know it is a working number.  How I long for the days of analog phones with no voice mail.
