I got a call from these guys today. I called back and Layla said that I had a returned package. That it was legal documents asking for wage garnishment. They didn't threaten arrest or anything like the other scammers. Said that I had a payday loan out a couple years back. They had an old address and bank account. Said that it was $180 and some change that I owe. But if I refused to pay, it would go to court and I'd owe almost $2000. Here's my question:
In order for a payday loan company to garnish wages, they have to get a judgement from the court. These guys claimed to already have the garnishment papers in hand (as Layla said... they were un-deliverable and were returned to their office) how is that possible without a judgement? Also, wouldn't the court be sending that paperwork? They said that the bank pursuing the funds is PDL and the original loan was taken out through My Cash Now. I am certain that this isn't the case. They also said it's been through 4 different collection agencies and there was even a payment made on it. WTF? Is this for real, does anybody have any insight? I did not give them money or information, I did forward the info to my attorney and asked him to reach out. So we will see. Just plain weird.
They said they had legal documents on me. I don't know who these people are and what type of legal documents they're talking about. I believe it is a scam.
I also received a phone staying they had papers for my partner but would give no information other than legal documents needing delivered. I did not give them any information and the man got rude and hung up after I said I would report them to the appropriate authorities.
They are doing the undelivered package scam. They claim to have a package that could not be delivered, and ask you to call a phone number. Calling the number will result in an automatic charge, and of course, there's not really any package. They don't even know your name - they just want you to call their number and be billed for the call.
