deena rookes calling my partners grandmother repeatedly asking about me, with details of past relationships and family members. scaring his grandma and incessantly asking for my number and if she sees me, and that she Needs to talk to me. nice way to harass an 87 year old woman. this is pathetic and ruthless and utterly not necessary.
Deena Rookes. Calling "on behalf of" CIBC. Sounds like a collections company. Left another number to reach her at: 866.350.1388. Seems to be linked to "Global", a Canadian collections company.
If anyone has trouble with companies like these, do the following:
1. Have a pen and a piece of paper handy.
2. Note the date and time of day.
3. Get the person's name and full business mailing address
4. Ask for the claim number / account number.
5. Tell them you will be notifying them in writing immediately and hang up. They aren't allowed to pursue the call any longer once you have said this. Note if they continue to call.
6. Send a registered letter to that company and note the person's name on the mailing label as well. State that you do not recognise the debt and wish to have it challenged in court ONLY and that no further correspondence from them will be acknowledged. They may be able to send you mail but they aren't legally allowed to call you once they have received such notice. Be sure to include the claim number.
7. Also state in the letter that you will be contacting:
1. Corporate and Consumer Affairs
2. Ontario Society of Collection Agents
if they do not follow Canadian law.
They rarely take anyone to court, so for the most part they will give up and sell the debt to another collections company. this is why you'll get calls from one company for a couple of months, then nothing, then more calls from a different company and so-on.
Paying your debts is obviously ideal, but don't let yourself be intimidated by these types of people. You can find all of the consumer information you'll need on Google but the above info is more than enough. Just be sure to document their comments to you (or as closely to what they actually said as possible) so that you can demonstrate their tactics. They don't want you to formally complain, believe me.
Got a Call from Deena. Said she was from CIBC and wanted to collect outstanding Visa Balance.
WAnted DOB and personal information.
She is a complete Hoax.
Deena Rookes. Very ignorant. Called, started asking for verification. Asked DOB, SIN (which they aren't allowed to ask), home address, cell number, etc. When informed all she was allowed to ask was DOB and home address, she became very aggressive, very ignorant. Refused to name the company she was calling from (if any), refused to release any information regarding the company she worked for, how she came across my information.
