There have been several telephone scams in which the caller tries to elicit a "yes" answer from the called person. Those scams have been around for at least four years.
The good part is ... Snopes states there are NO verified reports of people actually getting charged because of their "yes" answer.
Interesting observation: There are quite a few reports of the "Can You Hear Me" scam here ... and most of those reports tell readers not to say "yes". However there are at least as many "phony IRS" scams reported here ... but most of those reports ask "is this real?".
Why the difference?
Maybe, just maybe the "Can You Hear Me" scam was described on several TV newscasts, and the "phony IRS" scams are less "advertised". If this is true, perhaps YOU need to learn more about telephone scams. Visit

I keep getting calls from 910-817-0865 and 910-817-0866. The man calling is very rude. He says he is calling to collect for Veterans of the Helping Hands Association. He said he works for another marketing group (I think called Innovations). Previously he has called on behalf of "NC State Troopers". Phone ID says calls are from Rockingham. When I started to question him, he replied, "I understand", I asked him why he could not send me something in the mail BEFORE I give any money and his reply was "I understand." Very, very suspicious. He also uses 2-4 other numbers.
