just got the same call. this makes 4 different scammers this year. why can't someone arrest these people. I'm getting another one saying they are looking for the whereabouts of me, I have lived at the same address for 19 years and they can't find me. these are all BS.
This is a definite scam. I actually talked to someone for an extended period trying to make sense of the entire situation. They claimed to be from IRS and I owed money for fraudulent behavior. They stated they had an arrest warrant, a case number, etc.. They knew my address, used dates referring to claimed IRS documents and claimed to know what my mailbox looked like. Said they had pictures of my mailbox with a note from them attached to it. They were very demanding and wanting to know how I was going to resolve the situation of owing them $2598.00. My choice was to resolve it now or be taken to court. I stood my ground with the fact they have not sent me anything in writing. The person I was talking to finally got frustrated and patched me to a second person who was even more demanding consistently asking how was I going to resolve the money I owed them, to pay now or go to court. I told him I was going to resolve it by talking to my brother who is a detective in the fraud division. He replied, "what did you say"? So I repeated, I will resolve this situation by showing the information to my brother who is a detective in the fraud division. The person said, "ok" and hung up on me. Very unnerving!! My brother states that these people are patching calls from overseas and somehow are obtaining a US # to call people in the states. The people I spoke to had very heavy Asian accents. They are very threatening and have even threatened to take people's children away from them if they don't pay. They tell people to purchase gift cards from grocery stores and use the gift cards to track the buyer's bank account information. Once they trap a person they are unrelenting. Unfortunately because they are overseas it is very difficult to stop them. People need to be smart and alert!!
My wife keeps getting the same call, freaks her out every time. i always tell to never answer them and let them go to voice mail. There has to be a way to report the number to some agency so they can monitor it, to catch them.
I received a call from these people claiming that I was being charged with 3 counts tax evasion and they were requesting $3,488 to clear up the issue. If I chose not top comply, they would send federal marshals to my house and arrest me, since I have not responded to their 2 previous attempts to serve me with papers.
I told them that I needed a supervisors name and phone number so I could verify the information with my police department and they hung up on me.
Be smart - these people seem to have a lot of information, so DON'T VOLUNTEER ANYTHING or they will continue to call and harass you.
