i got a call from 915-633-6853 they asked if it was me i said yes they asked again i said yes and they hung up when tryed the number back it was busy weird miserious call
My daughter answered the phone and they asked for mr & mrs ". " and asked for us by name. She said we were not home. They said then who is home with you? She felt scared so said well they are really home but really really busy. They said fine we will send somebody out then.
They called my boyfriend's number. Asked me if is was Mrs. I said no. Asked if he were home. I said no may i take a message please. What is your name. I gave him my first name. He asked me my last name. I told him I did not feel comfortable telling you that Sir. Is there anything i can do for you Sir. Then he smarted off asked me So you are in some strangers house doing nothing. This made me angry. So I smarted back and said no smart [***] I am robbing him blind and decided to be nice enough to take a message for him. This is my residence. He said oh and hung up. Who is this and why are they calling? I do not have to give them my name even if they arrest me.
Caller identified himself as a person who was collecting donations for the Texas Highway Patrol Association, "a non-profit organization". Then he added the word museum. He wanted me to commit to a donation. I told him to send me the info through the mail and if everything checked out, I may send a donation back through the mail. He persisted that I make the smallest commitment of $10 right now and I told him if he could not do as I requested, I would not be making a donation at all. He then gave me the website thpa.org so that I could investigate and said he would call me back later in the week.
The website seemed a little amateurish, so I did a google search on the name...not a very good review from the BBB. They are not associated with the Texas Highway Department at all. Out of over $1.8 million raised during a drive to help a fallen officer, the family of the fallen officer reportedly received $12,500.
I will NOT be donating at all.
PS Their headquarters are supposed to be in Austin (He also stated this). However, the 915 area code is for the El Paso area.
