I got one myself, sting operation for computer repair and then they have you come over, start working on the computer and a cop and a man from DCA (dept of consumer affairs) comes out and tells you that you are working illegally, and that you need to have a BEAR License(Bureau of Electronic and Appliance Repair, an offshoot of the CSLB (contractor state licensing board) to work on computers. (Although I have a business license that SAYS "Electronic and Computer Repair" and the city never told me I needed any licensing (which I specifically asked) it seems that nobody knows of these people, and that they don't give out the information, even when you ask, BUT it's still your responsibility to know that you need it. It's the same license you need if you want to fix a dishwasher apparently, which is stupid. Also, they SAY it's for "consumer protection" but it's not, there are no tests, no need for fingerprinting, background check, or need for a bond or a insurance policy, you just need to pay them money every year... friggen scam, that's what happens when budgets get cut. They go after the small operations, the working man, just trying to put food on the table. Now I am paying a bunch of fines, and having to get the license as well (even though I've never heard of them before now. What a governmental SCAM!!! Your tax dollars at work i guess.
I got a call from this number. I called it back and the computer message said "You have reached an unassigned number for the (DCA). Please check your local directory, or the website, for the department you wish to reach." The only DCA agency that might be calling me is the Board of Registered Nursing. Right now the Board appears to be ignoring a male nurse masquerading as an "M.D." (putting it on his business cards and website) and the Board has known about this for over two years. The male nurse "M.D." told me "The Board doesn't care what we do." Now is the time for the Board to tell the people it serves whether or not it cares that a male nurse is allowed to pose as an M.D., and whether or not this man will get off with just a slap on the wrist.
Some guy named Michael called from this number and left a message to call him back at a different number 916-397-8336 and said to call him back it was very important. I was driving so did not respond. This man left me 8 more messages, including " Hey ( my name), call me back and I will give you a reward for the lost phone - cash, " I had no idea who this guy is. Or a lost phone. Kept calling leaving me messages. SCAM!!!! The 10th time I had it and gave the phone to my policeman friend who told him more or less to leave it alone. The guy didn't even breath and hung up. No calls since. BEWARE EVERYONE!!!!!!!
