Left message stating if I didn't call back they would pursue processing. I called the number back. Stated i owed money from 2010. That was deposited into a old bank account. There was never money deposited i have all my bank records because recently have been getting a lot of these calls. I don't owe anyone money. I stated i wanted a validation of debt mailed to me otherwise I couldn't discuss anything. They claimed they don't mail anything only email (Scam red flag) i replied with well by law im entitled to this so do what you need to do but if you serve me for a phantom debt I will sue you for damages and win. Said ok and hung up. Have not got calls since.
If you ever applied or wanted more info on a payday loan, 3 of the companies which have about 60 names under them have been investigated by the ftc for fraud. Before they got caught they sold your information with fake debts to multiple companies. Those phantom debts get resold every 90 days. So if you really don't know the name on the account they claim you owe ask for a validation of debt. They might say that you'll only get it if you get served say ok. after talking to lawyers and collection companies they all stated about 99% will never serve you its a threat unless you really owe it. If you do really get served you have 30 days to prove you don't owe it.
Also, ask them for there full address, their full name, company business type, if they say collection company ask what their license number is to collect in your state. They most likely will hang up.
It sucks getting the calls but DO NOT give them any money if you dont owe it.
I got a call from 9182012018 at 3:25 today. Caller idea says mediation department. Saying they were calling from Howard Stein on a collection. I called them back and talked to Amber Goodson . She did not know I was not the person they were looking for. When I took a little while to answer she stated they could not talk to me they could only talk to the person (name). How did they know I was the one they were calling for?
Ignore. Total scam. Someone is trying to scare some money out of you.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. If you can find them.
