They called my unlisted landline at 6:55 AM ( !!!) PDT on 11 August 2016. Caller ID said, "Out of Area".
A female computerized voice left a message: "The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 918-981-3007. I repeat, 918-981-3007. Thank you."
This is a scam to steal your money. If you search the internet, you will learn that many people are receiving identical calls from many different phone numbers. These are criminals, not the IRS. The IRS always send letters in the mail to your address of record.
I will report them to DoNotCall.gov and the IRS. I am sure that the IRS is aware of these scams, but can do little about them, other than warning the public.
