YOU do not have to prove they did not send you money!
THEY have to prove they loaned you the money, and they are the legally authorized collectors!

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]
Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

Scam - caller said she was from Pretrial Processing. Said I had 2 complaints against me and they were going to come arrest me if I didn't pay them money. Laughable to stupid they think people are. Just laugh at them and hang up.
Collection agency supposedly saying I owed $500 from 5 years ago + $567 for late fees & interest. I was told $500 was deposited into my checking account. Once I proved that $500 wasn't wired into my checking account, they will not call me back. I spoke with George Davis which I'm sure is not his real name

Called threatening legal action first called husband then me. Stated we owed money for a payday loan we never took out in when we lived in another part of the country at the time and referenced a bank account we have not had in over 10 years. Case # ***385 and said it was from Gateway holdings. Provided number 704-579-5675 to return call by 5 pm.
