Received a call from 925-271-7471 at 9:10 AM on 10/30/15; shown on CID as: "Pleasanton CA" (never heard of it!). Call was picked up by answering machine, but no message was left. Probably a scam/spoof/sales call, since a legitimate caller would leave a message and a call back number. These types of calls are SO-O-O annoying, especially so early in the morning!
@mouser- Just wondering how you know it is a debt collector? I, also, received a call from that same number, but it appeared as "Pleasanton CA" on CID. I didn't answer it, and no message was left. Since I do not use charge cards, and have no outstanding debts, it would not make sense that it would be a debt collector, at least in my situation!
Debt collectors have proven history of calling outdated/invalid numbers. I know this because I have been stuck with calls from debt collectors asking for people I never heard of. I believe the calls I was receiving were for the person previously held the number. Getting them to stop was next to impossible. The only time I had luck was when it was the original creditor.
Another thing that comes to mind is that somebody could have applied for a line a credit and entered a random number on the application. This exact thing happened to somebody who is fairly active on the site. It appears that somebody put his phone number on an application. Because of this he ended up with calls from debt collectors. These operations are also know for going after debt that has passed the statute of limitations.
When it comes right down to it, third party debt collectors often play by their own rules instead of following the law.
IF this is a debt collector, you might want to consider the option of a call blocking device.
One more thing the people that work for these operations have been known to comment on this site. The typical comment is telling you to pay your bills & etc. Just ignore them.
I wish you the best of luck.
