Second call in three days from this 'local' number, but this time I answered.
After a robocall 'boip', a man came on and introduced himself as "Jamie from the Home Remodeling & Repair Center".
When I asked what his company was again - he hung up!
There is of course no local company by that name.
The phone number is probably spoofed - and this is the latest incarnation of the vast number of 'home improvement' lead hunters that make illegal robocalls to get leads to sell to contractors that may or may not be legitimate.
Fourth call from this number.
This time a woman said she was calling from "Home Design Center" in Concord, CA.
(Standard, doing work in my area and offering %25 off material etc. ,,,)
Asked where they were located in Concord, and she said they were across from Home Depot, near Trader Joes.
When I asked if they had a web site, I was told "greendayremodelinginc.com".
Of course, there is no such company listed, and no such web site.
Next time I go to HD or TJs I will look for them.
I explained that I was being bombarded by calls, and asked how they got my information.
The lady was kind enough to tell me that I was on the "Haines List" of potential customers that they purchased.
I guess that explains why I am now getting 10-20 calls a week from various contractor lead hunters.
So I looked up Haines list.
Haines & Company is a national supplier of direct marketing leads for mail, telephone and email advertising, fund raising, etc. Seems they are one of the big problems that many of us have as we end up on their 'lists' without knowing it. I called Haines, but was told that their offices in Ohio close at 3pm and I could call tomorrow to ask to be removed from their list. Will try that and see.
Fifth call from this number - different person and fake business name each time.
This one was from "Home Remodeling Center".
Apparently, when Haines & Company sells a list, the contractors that buy in can have all their calls placed through a remote autodialer - so a new call each day from a different contractor - all from the same caller ID number.
You have to talk to each and ask to be removed from their list.
When I asked for the actual name of their company, he said "Contra Costa Builders Incorporated" - which I do not find listed online. Gave me a phone number that comes up blank also.
I did contact Haines & Company and asked for my home and cell to be removed from their lists.
Very annoying.
I called Haines & Company, Inc, located in Canton, OH: 330-494-9111, or just Google Haines Lists.
I told them I was receiving unsolicited/harassing phone calls from people using a list provided by their company, and they immediately offered to put me/my personal information on their list of people to not be included on any of their product lists ever again. First they just took my phone number and name, and I then requested that that they also remove any personal information they have about me from their lists/products, and they added that to my request. Not sure how much good this will do, but they were very polite and accommodating during the process - no push back at all.
