I received a call from this number stating they were the IRS division of criminal investigation and they've been trying to get a hold of me. And if I don't respond they will be filing a lawsuit against me.
There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Received threatening voicemail on landline. Claims to be irs and will sue me. Have heen trying to get ahold of us. Voicemail machine was on and they actually left a message. New it was a scam. Irs dont phone you and threaten you.
