I received a call on January 21, 2015 from someone claiming to be the IRS. I was told I owed $1,958 as the result of an audit conducted for the years 2008 - 2012. I was also told a notice was mailed to me in regards to this matter June 2014 of which record shows proof of receipt. I told the caller I had no recollection of receiving any notice from the IRS in June and that I would be willing to clear up any problems or errors made on my part. However, when I asked what the error(s) were, he immediately became argumentative and just wanted to control the conversation by telling me to not interrupt him and that I had one of two options to decide on today: 1) to settle by making payment now, or 2) I would have to obtain an attorney within 72 hours to handle matter in court. I later asked for his name and case number which he did give me. I noticed that he was becoming more agitated and upset which I thought was somewhat unprofessional and concerning. Lastly, when I asked if I could on that same day go to a nearby office to resolve this issue, the caller angrily decided to end the call by suggesting I handle the matter on my own.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
