Got a call from an unknown number. "James" had a heavy Indian accent. He said he was with Microsoft support and my computer was infected. He wanted me to log on to my computer. I asked him for a number I could call back and this is the number he gave. I did call it. It was a working number and I could hear lots of telemarketing voices in the background.
Yes, this happened to me, also. After much frustration and telling me that they could fix my computer which showed errors, they wanted money up front to fix the issues. After all of this happened which I cancelled all costs through my bank, I called the FBI to report fraud. Beware. No one from Microsoft support makes any calls to phone numbers. This was a total spam.
It almost cost me $525.00, but I got on the bank wagon and got this taken care of in not so nice manner when they called me back to see if my computer was working okay. I had my computer store, check out everything on my computer to make sure nothing was added. DO NOT TAKE ANY CALLS LIKE THIS!!!!!!!
I was requested by the "Technician (Jemmy)" [obvious Indian accents by Jemmy and the lead caller] to simultaneously press the "Windows" button (next to the control key) and R button to discern "the extent of contamination" in the computer. I did not comply and requested background on how it was that the caller knew the computer was infected in the first place and how the infection came to be spread. I received little in response. I requested a follow-up number, which was 929-999-1834. The incoming call was from "Unavailable" at a 452 area code.
This is a scam artist. Do not return his call and report it to the appropriate authorities. I would like to see these guys spend some time in jail to think about what they are doing.....
We got a call at 7AM from a different caller id number, with a name of Jeff Hahn. The person talking to us sounded foreign with a heavy accent and identified themselves as Max Parker. She told us she was from Ultra Soft Solutions and we had two infected computers. She would show us our Microsoft License number and help us clean the computer. We asked for her information and she gave us this number 9299991834. At this time we hung up and decided to investigate, we are still in the process.
