Caller said they were the IRS and I'de been audited from several yrs. ago and that I wowed 2600 dollars and they wanted to come to my home tomorrow for at least $500. And set up a pay plan. This is not true. I gave them my address and some info before I hung up on them because I thought it was a scam. I thought if this were true, they would have sent me a letter. Nervous that they have my address and phone number. What should I do? I'm a widow on a fixed income. Don't owe any back taxes.
I've just left a message about a call coming from this number saying they were the IRS saying I owed them money. Not true. They managed to get my address and phone number and said they were sending someone over here tomorrow looking for $500.00 and a payment plan. I finally hung up realizing that it was a scam. I don't like that they have some info about me and want them reported.
I havr voicemail to text and this is the message that was left "Hello this call is officially a final notice from IRS Internal Revenue Service. The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you to get more information about this case file. Please call immediately on our department number 936-204-4196. I repeat 936-204-4196 dot thank you."
I called just to see what they said, a guy named "Sal" with a very heavy accent answer " this is Sal with the IRS, how may I help you". I asked him for his full name and ID # his reply was "Sal ummm 3537" I asked for the last name and the complete number. He couldn't give me either. I asked them to stop calling me that they were a fraud.
I have owed the IRS before, they have NEVER called I always got a certified letter in the mail. And when I have called its always a push 1 for this, press 2 for this etc.. and then on hold for 15 -45 min if not more.!
