called my house every morning and even a couple times in the evening. They would call from out of area and then this phone number. Thats not a way to get business by repeatedly calling someone to sell their services!
This call came across as a 239-661-7797. No message left. I called back and "they" told me they were collecting money for the "Police Benevolent Association". I actually got through to a Supervisor, Tiffany Riddle who advised they were exempt from the DNC. I told her they called a few days ago.....at 8:00 o'clock in the morning. I gave her an earful. She said she would put me on "THEIR" do not call list. They are located at 1549 Ringling Causeway, Sarasota, Fl. They are located on the 6th floor but she wouldn't tell me which suite. The thing is, I'm familiar with Sarasota :). I advised her that another call would prompt me to drive over and tell her in person how I feel about telemarketers - or - anyone else calling my house trying to scam information or money out of me. Finding their suite on the 6th floor won't be difficult.

For you folks who get irritated with these people annoying you on the phone, I will tell you this - the Do Not Call Registry program will NOT stop them from calling you. It is VOLUNTARY on the part of the caller and it does not apply to "non profits" or political calls anyway. Besides that, many of these calls do not even originate in this country. They are in another country but they use a telephone service here to forward their calls through that makes their number look like a local number or at least a US number.
Filing a complaint here against scammers who are in another country is an absolute waste of time. The Do Not Call Registry was an effort by our politicians to make us think they are addressing this problem, and they are NOT. They are, in fact, part of the problem because they made political calls exempt from the Do Not Call Registry. Nice trick, huh?
DON'T answer calls if you don't recognize the caller's number. Let your answering machine handle it. DON'T argue with them! If you answer the phone they will list you as a "live contact" and they will sell your number to other telemarketers and your calls will increase greatly.
Remember - they have your phone number and they can most likely get your home address from that number. (Google your own phone number as a test) If you tell them off or threaten them they might send someone to visit you in the middle of the night just for fun.
The best chance you have of controlling this problem is to buy a telephone or an ad-on gadget that will block calls for you. They call you, you push a button and their calls from that number are blocked from that point on. I am not trying to sell you equipment but I have a phone that blocks up to 250 numbers. It will block by specific area codes too. It can also be set up to block ALL numbers except the ones you want to accept calls from. Look around on Amazon or other places that sell electronics. There are a lot of options available that work very well at a reasonable price. Also check with your telephone service provider. The are very likely to already have a process you can use for free that will block calls.
