"Frank White" called from this number sying he was from Bankd of America and telling my 80+ mother that her deceased husband and won $950,000 from Publisher Clearing House through America Sweepstakes Company. He then faxed me poorly created letters from the IRs FTC and the Department of Justice full of confusing language, spelling and puctuation errors. He finally asked for $5000 for insurance prior to transfering the money. I infrormed him that I had reported him to the state attrorney generals office. This ended his contact with me very quicly.

Mr. Washington has called me over 50 times in a matter of 48 hrs saying I won $950,000 and faxed papers over I have asked and asked to not call me back then I got a phone number stating this guy was from the bbs better business bur. and it was all good, I called the Police they confirmed it was a scam. he is now threating me.
Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocking device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information, or visit Amazon or similar sales site.
If you cannot use or afford to buy such a tool, then:
• Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
• Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.
• If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.
• Another option, for both smart and "dumb" cell phones: Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers. That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact! You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number! (This is also called "whitelisting").
