I recently signed up for one of those robocall blocking services (the one whose name cannot be mentioned here) and I just went online to check my call history to see how well it was working. I had two back to back calls from this number. The first one appears to have been blocked, as it is shown as a "missed call" (since I signed up a few days ago, all the calls from unknown numbers have appeared as "missed call".) The second was placed within a minute of the first (probably as the first was still getting the "you are being blocked" message) so it seems to have rung through (since I am not home yet, I cannot tell if they left a message.) The aggressiveness of this calling behavior indicates to me that this is not a legitimate telemarketer (and the legitimate ones would not have called anyway, what with my being on the Do Not Call registry.) It also indicates a flaw in how the "simultaneous ring" blocking service works. But that flaw will not matter much, once I get home tonight and add their number to my personal call blocker.
If they bothered to leave a message on my machine (which I doubt) I will post a follow up as to who they claim to be and what scam they appear to be trying.
Well, I got home to find that they did leave a message. The same robocall message that I have been getting on other numbers over the past couple weeks (always on a Friday). They always start before the outgoing message ends so I miss the intro and any company name (if any) mentioned, but usually the message mentions the following:
I am being offered an unknown percentage (that value appears to be the last thing the cloyingly sweet female robovoice says before my machine starts recording) savings on a vacation to Florida, including 4 days and 3 nights in “magical” Orlando, another 3 days and 2 nights in southern Florida followed by a 2 night cruise to the Bahamas. And the “Best Part” is that I will get a rental car with “unlimited mileage” (it has been years since I have had to worry about mileage on a rental car (and I rent quite often, all over the country), so this must be a bottom of the barrel rental company) and they will also include breakfast, lunch and dinner for the entire vacation (I shudder to think just how pathetic that would end up being.) I do enjoy how robogirl then keeps stating “I only have a few questions to ask before I transfer you to a personal travel coordinator, OK?” over and over waiting for my machine to respond.
